Maya Agasi: My dream is to tour the world with Usher/Chris Brown

Israeli-born Maya Agasi has had a dazzling career in the world of dance. Her passion for dance, combined with an unwavering dedication to her art, has led her to collaborate with some of the biggest names in music and entertainment both nationally and internationally. Maya spoke with us and this is what she had to say:

-You have worked with some of the most renowned artists in Israel and on the international scene. What lessons or insights have you gained from collaborating with them that have enriched your career?

-Dancing with artists is a true gift! Watching them sweat and work hard with us during rehearsals, knowing that we are in this together, is a collaboration; without the dancers, the final product is not complete. I think many people do not understand the importance of dancers in performances or music videos. All the artists and choreographers I have worked with have pushed me to be the best version of myself and given us dancers the opportunity to shine on stage. I am grateful for every opportunity.

-You will soon be moving to the United States to join the dance company ‘Soul Project’. What are your expectations for this new stage of your professional life and what personal and artistic goals do you hope to achieve there?

-Dancing there has always been a dream of mine, so joining as a principal dancer is somewhat surreal. Candace Brown, the choreographer, is one of my biggest inspirations. I am looking forward to sharing the stage and teaching the other members of the company. I look forward to showing my unique self on stage and representing my country with pride.

-You are recognized as one of the best hip hop and heels instructors in the world. What do you think sets you apart as an instructor and what aspects of teaching do you find most rewarding?

-After years, I still blush when people tell me that; I never quite take it all in and it always comforts me to hear the huge impact I have had on students around the world. I always come to my classes with the goal of sharing as much as I can. Ultimately, my goal is for my students to excel and thrive. It is very important to me that they feel this. I love teaching and I think my travels around the world have definitely influenced my dancing. I have spent many years refining my art, and the combination and tastes of each culture I have encountered have created a final product that is quite unique. My life experiences and travels are the biggest factor in who I am today as a dancer.

-Are there any particular dreams, projects, or collaborations coming up?

-The biggest dream is to be on a world tour with Usher/Chris Brown, to continue traveling the world dancing and teaching. I have lived some of my biggest dreams so far, so I have no doubt that I am capable of making my next goals a reality.
