Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonny Weathersby.
It’s an honor to highlight your success on our platform. Do you mind telling us about the things you’ve been able to accomplish?
First, I’m still living. That’s an accomplishment all by itself. Throughout my life, I’ve been able to accomplish many of my dreams. I’ve been a professional athlete, a college graduate, a military vet, a published author, and a mentor. My greatest accomplishment though was/is getting to know God.
Tell us about some of the memories you’ve made on your journey!
There have been countless memories made on my journey. However, one, in particular, led me to where I am today. One day I was substituting in a high school class. Before the students arrived, one of the teachers warned me that I was about to have some challenging students, and she was right! The kids came in the classroom screaming. They didn’t want to complete their work, and they thought they were going to spend the period playing around until we had a serious conversation.
I started asking them some questions about life. I asked: How many of you know what it takes to get into college? How many of you know how many students graduate from college? How many of you know how much it costs to attend college? How much money do you think you need to live every month? How do you plan to make that happen? Just asking those questions caused them to start thinking more seriously about the use of their time. After having that thought-provoking discussion, I decided I wanted to start a nonprofit organization that would allow me to mentor the youth, and What It Takes was created.
What It Takes is my mentoring program that was created to empower middle and high school students with what it takes to be confident, information-seeking, and successful adults.
Do you have any final thoughts you would like to share with our audience?
Nothing will change in your life unless you do. But how do you make the change? You must have a purpose, goals, a plan to achieve the goals, a little bit of work ethic and discipline, and some faith.
Now, I know starting any type of journey can be tough, but that’s why you’d have me in your corner. I can help you tailor a plan and coach you through the finish line. And while my ultimate mission is to help you figure out how to get from Point A to Point B, I also help you learn that it’s not so much about the road, but the destination. Enjoy the journey.
Finally, how can people connect with you and learn more about what you do?
