Tailoring as an Art Form
Inspired by legendary figures like Giacomo Trabalza, Bill Fioravanti, and Lou Myles, Martinez didn’t just study style—he studied icons. With their guidance, and a push from his wife, he turned his love for fashion into a full-fledged business.
He began his apprenticeship in Houston, then returned to Louisiana to launch what would become one of the South’s most respected custom brands.
Navigating Hard Times
Launching a business during Louisiana’s oil bust of the 1980s wasn’t easy. Clients were leaving, real estate was falling, and industries were collapsing. But Martinez refused to be defeated.
“Where others saw obstacles, I saw clients who still needed to show up strong.”
By tailoring for key community leaders, he positioned himself as a go-to for elegance and impact.
From ‘No’ to Leadership
In 1982, Martinez applied to the Custom Tailors and Designers Association of America. He was turned down. He tried again—and was accepted. In 1997, he became President.
“That rejection became a turning point. It made me stronger.”
The accolades came rolling in. By 2005, his work was featured in top-tier publications, and he began winning national competitions.

Martinez believes every entrepreneur should look the part—even before they become the part.
“Your clothing says who you are before you do. Let it speak well.”
He urges aspiring founders to combine passion, hard work, and personal branding as tools for growth.
Routine, Reflection, and Resilience
Starting his day at 5:30 a.m., Martinez practices gratitude, takes long walks, and maintains focus. It’s this discipline, combined with deep faith, that keeps him aligned—especially in high-pressure moments.
During the pandemic, Martinez again pivoted with purpose, designing outdoor clothing and sportswear to meet the new needs of his clients.
Carrying the Torch
Today, he’s preparing his daughter and son-in-law to take over the business, while expanding into high-end casualwear that includes jeans, polos, and field-ready jackets.
