Andrea Machado’s passion for architecture not only comes from her upbringing in a family of architects, but also from her deep connection to the communities and environment that surrounds her. Raised in Cali, Colombia, where architecture can have a direct impact on people’s quality of life, Andrea was inspired from an early age to use design as a tool for social and ecological change.
Her journey through the world of architecture began with the exploration of emblematic buildings and museums with her father, which sparked her interest in design and the management of light. However, it was her experience in Cali, a city marked by inequality and migration, that motivated her to focus her career on the design of public spaces and museums.
Within architecture, her favorite area is the design and execution of museums and public spaces. For Andrea, these spaces are not only places of social and cultural interaction, but also opportunities to improve people’s quality of life through conscious design of light, ventilation and vegetation.
What sets Andrea apart from her colleagues is her early experience in construction management and her multicultural approach. Participating in the construction process of the Warsaw Museum of Modern Art gave her a practical understanding of how buildings are constructed and the importance of coordination between international teams. Additionally, her perspective as an art historian brings a unique dimension to her architectural design, fusing aesthetics with cultural and social context.
With her multidisciplinary approach and commitment to conscious and socially responsible design, Andrea Machado is transforming the architectural landscape, inspiring her colleagues, and promoting a more sustainable and equitable future through her work.
